save the date!

so amanda and i are getting married sept 3rd 2011.....labor day weekend! amanda has been to two different bridal shows (in charlotte and pinehurst...where we're going to get married) and gotten some good ideas. although things at times seem to move slowly, we are trying to get some things accomplished every day we are off from work.

my dad and mom made their first trip to pinehurst, nc to see amanda's parents and to see pinehurst in person. mom went with amanda and mary to the bridal show. they had a blast. randy, dad and i rested at home watching tv.

anamada and i registered at bed bath and beyond the other day. it took us 3hrs to comb through the entire store. we mainly focused on kitchen and bathroom stuff. it was fun!

i got a fence put up at the house and spread grass seed the other day. the fence looks awesome and well the grass seed....let's just say we'll have to wait for the spring time to see blades of grass.

also, amanda and i bought a white chevy tahoe '07 4x4. its our vehicle for the future. ya know kids! it looks great and i love it. now all i have to do is trade in the tundra.

winter storm

well, charlotte metro area got it with another wintry mix of snow and ice again in less than 1 month's time. this time it was much colder dropping all the way down to 16 degrees one night. despite the warmth of the bed, daisy (amanda's dog) still had to take an early early middle of the night potty break. with hoody and bedroom slippers on, i walked outside with daisy to allow her to empty her bladder. what should have taken 5 minutes ended up being 10 minutes. far too long a trip in that degree of weather to stay outside without proper clothing.

amanda and i rearranged the living room again, to open up the space a bit and i must say that its growing on us. as we were moving things around, we vacuumed and shampooed the carpet along with dusting here and there. nothing like cleaning as you go.

we had sarah, travis and nicholas over the past two nights for dinner. spending time with them is truly a blessing. though we are neighbors and feels good to have them over to our house every once in awhile.

the holidays were great! i had the whole family down to the house for Christmas and New Years. Amanda's parents were even able to come up for it...(not Christmas though). amanda and i and daisy drove to pinehurst on Christmas day in the snow and ice. all 'n all it was a great "first" holiday season with amanda, daisy and her family.

amanda and i are engaged! the wedding is set for sometime in october in pinehurst, nc were amanda was raised. lots to do this year in preparation. hopefully there won't be too much stress involved. still it will be exciting.

the house is coming together. amanda and i hung more pictures on the wall and randy (my father-in-law) built me a work bench in the garage. painting is on our list to do this year.

work is going well. busy some days and relaxed on others. lots of changes coming to 7T in 2011 though. can't wait for the good ones.

holiday season

so amanda and i have the house all decorated for the holiday season. two trees, lights, candles and a wreath later, thye place looks absolutely great. presents are under the tree ready to be ripped open by family and pictures are ready to be taken at a "flash." daisy, of course is ready too.

work has been good. been working from home these past couple of days during my HB time and i have enjoyed it. kinda lazy on certain days but "its all good" like my father tells me from time to time. i still love being a nurse educator, less stress (sort of) and a better schedule (by that i mean flexibility).

amanda and i had david and crystal down the other weekend for dinner and hanging out. it was good to see them once more. they're doing well, enjoying being married 'n all. still....it was good to see them again.

saw HP7 and i have to say it was amazing. read the book but loved seeing the movie afterwards. ready for 2011 when so many good movies will be opening in the summer time.

so, once again i have been quite slack not to have updated my blog more frequently so here it is:

1.) Nursing- i interviewed and got the nurse educator position (nights) on 7Tower (where i work, if you didn't know). i work two days (12hrs) giving patient care and then work a day in the office (8 hrs) which equals 32hrs a week. now i do stretch that 8hrs in the office to a full 12hrs to equal 36hrs so that may paycheck looks better. i attend hospital wide meetings so that i can bring back the proper education back to my staff. its a good change of pace for me.

2.) House- so i've been in my house since june and i have to stay, the feeling is still quite new to me but still very exciting. amanda (my g/f) has really helped me organized my things and set up rooms that are cozy and inviting. today we put up some christmas decorations and a christmas tree in the office. we also, hung lights outside the house. it really looks good at night. "very christmas-y" i would say. amanda and i have some ideas for the house come the new year that will add some storage and space to the homestead.

3.) Family- my cousin david got married this past september to a girl from rock hill (crystal) and sarah, travis and nicholas (my neighbors) are doing well. travis wants to go to seminar and sarah graduates in may. they had their christmas decorations up before amanda and i but thats okay. we have outside lights and they don't. =) mom and dad just back from pennsylvania. they were up seeing grandma and grandpa, who are doing okay or as well as they can at their age. they're such a cute couple to this day after so many years of marriage.

vacation

so amanda and i went to the beach with sarah, travis, nicholas, jenn and liz july 31st through august 7. we had a good time. the beach was really crowded during the day and temperatures were in the upper 90's all week long. Although, amanda and i spent the majority of our time sleeping and lounging by the pool, it was good to take a break from the hospital.

amanda and i did manage to escape the confines of our room and venture to "barefoot landing" and "boardwalk at the beach." we walked around and shopped for a couple of hours, feed those "nasty" catfish off of the side of the pier and watched some kids fly across the zip line.

one night we laid a blanket on the sand and listened to the rush of the waves and in doing so some teenage kids (6) decided they would try to be cool and leap over a beach garage barrel. such was not the case. one of the boys tried to jump a garage barrel (trying to impress the girls and other boys walking with him) and knocked it over, spilling the trash all over the sand. some guys on the balcony of the nearby hotel, started shouted at the kids and threatened to call the beach patrol if the trash was not immediately picked up. they of course exchanged some "colorful metaphors" during the process. a couple of minutes later, the girls in the group picked up the trash, while the boys did nothing! some gentlemen they were.

all week long we ate snack food, only having three "quality" meals the entire time we were there. our stomachs hurt so bad the latter half of the trip. we were dying for a home cooked meal. before driving back to charlotte, we stopped in pinehurst to see amanda's parents for the weekend. there we got some good food and good company. it was a good break in between the beach and coming home sunday afternoon.

all 'n all, we had a good time at the beach and in pinehurst but we were ready to get back to our homes in charlotte.

changing the subject a bit....i bought a really cool "L" shaped couch. i've wanted one for a long time now and finally found the right one. its quite large and very comfortable. (micro suede fabric i believe.) i also had blinds put up at the house and i actually spent a night there this week. i still need to get a curtain for the sliding glass door (kinda creepy at night) but the house is coming together slowly but surely. we plan to paint soon, which will make the house feel more inviting.

cleaning at 0830 on a saturday morning

so amanda and i just got up at 0830 and cleaned her place on a saturday morning. dusting and vacuuming the upstairs and downstairs rooms, we work well as a team. of course, its crazy to think that we actually got up that early on a saturday to clean!

we also, took a day trip to see amanda's parents the day before. it was a welcomed surprise for her folks and brothers i must say. we picked up her neice at daycare and spent the early part of the afternoon playing at the pool. broocklyn is amanda's niece's name. amanda and i jumped off the diving board with her, threw her in the pool (we were already in the pool of course) and played "marco polo" for the better half of an hour and a half. we had so much fun.

later that night mary (amanda's mom) made for dinner enchiladas for the family. i had five of them, eating the most of anyone at the table, even luke. they were so good.

i now am the proud owner of an enormous "L" shaped couch. there's a little place in Troy, NC that amanda recommended to me. it has good furniture at an excellent price. so this 11ft couch cost me $807.00....such a great deal. it looks so great in my house. amanda helped and encouraged me so much. i will upload and picture on FB when i get a chance.
